The Education Committee of the PSMODCOM board meets and goes through a careful selection process from the pool of candidates to award one $2,500 Robert Imber Scholarship to a candidate from each high school in the Coachella Valley, with each scholarship renewable for up to four years for a total of $10,000.
In years where no suitable candidate has been nominated from one of the high schools, the committee has elected to award two scholarships to one of the other high schools. Members of the PSMODCOM board are on hand for the graduation ceremonies when the scholarships are awarded, and also hold a special reception for the students with their families, school officials, and member of PSMODCOM and the community. The students are also given a complimentary membership to PSMODCOM for the following year.
This program has been a very successful outreach program, and has helped build awareness among the younger people in the community about preservation issues in the Palm Springs area. It also helps identify career paths for the most deserving students.
