Join PS MODCOM for a summer getaway of Ceramics Architecture and Lunch
This all-day tour is a double feature offering a first look at the inaugural opening day of a major new exhibit at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) followed by a delightful lunch and an afternoon tour exploring the rich architectural heritage of the inland empire, in Claremont.
Based on the book, Architectural Pottery: Ceramics for a Modern Landscape authored by photographer Dan Chavkin, Jeffrey Head and Joe Lauria, the exhibit features an outstanding array of unique examples of accent housewares for the modern home.
This is the first book to document the history of the groundbreaking company Architectural Pottery, tracing its critical influence on midcentury design and its enduring appeal today.
The ceramics were first seen in houses by Richard Neutra, John Lautner, and the Case Study Houses and were featured in the first of MoMA’s legendary Good Design exhibitions alongside now-iconic designs by Ray and Charles Eames, Alexander Girard, and George Nelson.
Net we head to Claremont for an amazing home tour featuring an impressive roster of architects. Included is a newly restored 1939 Cliff May Hacienda, the Foster Rhodes Jackson designed Lindley Mixon (ceramist) home and studio. A Paul R. Williams house, a 1939 home constructed from debris from Route 66 when it was washed out in the 1938 Flood! A Buff & Hensman, Richard Neutra, Paul R. Williams, Edward Durell Stone and more…. This tour is NOT to be missed and only 25 seats are available.
