Palm Springs, CA – November 7, 2010
– The Palm Springs Modern Committee (PS ModCom), a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to maintaining the heritage of modern architecture and historic neighborhoods in Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley, has launched a new website at: www.psmodcom.org.
PS ModCom’s website is designed to be a vital resource for people interested in mid-century modern architects and the preservation of their contributions and influence on Desert Modernism. The site features iconic and archival photography of significant historic modern properties, as well as of the architects who were responsible for bringing their designs to the region.
"We are excited to unveil an abundant source of educational content that is both visually rich and advocates the importance of preserving the numerous globally-
recognized examples of the desert’s mid-century modern design," said Mary Jensen, PS ModCom board member "Our vision of the website was to present the aesthetic beauty of mid-century modern buildings and couple it with fantastic illustrative historical content as part of our efforts to bring awareness to the conservation
efforts here in the Coachella Valley."
Features include:
- A preservation section with information on buildings at risk and PS ModCom’s efforts to save them
- An expanded and enhanced collection of galleries and biographies of the Valley’s most prominent architects
- A historic timeline of the development of Desert Modernism and the preservation movement
- A vintage Palm Springs section with mid-century ephemera illustrating how architecture was being written about and marketed
- An expanded Shop with many PS ModCom-exclusive books, DVDs, prints and maps
- Easy-to-use tools to join and renew annual memberships online
The new website (www.psmodcom.org) is available today and new content is
regularly added.
