ON OCTOBER 2

Award Luncheon Honors Achievements in Preservation and
Restoration of Desert’s
Mid-Century Modern Architectural Treasures

Palm Springs, CA – August 25, 2010 – On Saturday, October 2nd, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Palm Springs Modern Committee (PS ModCom) will host their annual awards luncheon to publicly honor the efforts of those who have helped preserve significant historic modern properties.

Join the committee as they honor local architect Hugh Kaptur with the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award. Kaptur’s body of work stretches more than half a century in the desert and includes such well-known properties as the Burgess, Steve McQueen, and William Holden residences, Casa Blanca/Musicland Hotel, and the Impala Lodge/
Triangle Inn.

Michael Johnston and David Zipple will receive the Restoration Award for the Winters Residence, designed by famed architect
William Cody in Palm Springs.

Stan Amy and Christy Eugenis will receive the Preservation Award for The Hideaway hotel, designed by Herbert W. Burns.

The award for the reconstruction of an important modern building will go to the team responsible for bringing architect Albert Frey’s North Shore Yacht Club back to life. Team member Jennie Kelly will receive the Leadership in Preservation Award for inspiring and leading the reconstruction effort.

Linda Taalman and Alan Koch of Taalman Koch will be honored with the Excellence in New Design Award for the spectacular iT house in Pioneertown’s Pipes Canyon.

J.R. Roberts, Vice President of PS ModCom, and Joy Ryan will emcee the event.
