PALM SPRINGS MODERN COMMITTEE
HOLIDAY 2011 NEWS UPDATE
GREETINGS MOD SQUAD
Unbelievable just how fast this year seems to have flown by and here we are once again with the Holidays a week away and Modernism Week just around the corner. The dates run from 2/16/12 – 2/26/12 and I suggest you check out the website for all the amazing events that are being offered at: www.modernismweek.com
Still stuck on what to buy for a holiday gift, check out our online shop for some unique DVD’s, the very popular Salton Sea Ashtray, T shirts and more. Orders placed over the weekend will be guaranteed to arrive before Christmas Day.
We have some new and exciting things planned for the coming year including a tour to an out of state Modern Mecca, along with the High Desert and fall tours plus so much more!
ICONIC HOME TOURS
Once again PS ModCom will be opening some of Palm Springs’ most iconic homes for the tour. Included in the 2012 tour is the Ship of the Desert on 2/18, the Edris house on 2/19, and our ModCom President Chris Menrad’s Krisel residence, that will also be receiving a Class One site plaque and ceremony with City officials on 2/20 from 9.45 am – 11.45 am (details will be posted on the Modernism Week web site shortly). Another very impressive addition to the tour is the Palevsky residence on 2/19, which offers a rare opportunity to view the interior of a Craig Ellwood designed estate with a four bedroom guest house hidden inside a walled compound.
GALA BENEFIT
The Annual Gala Benefit is being held at a private residence in Tamarisk Country Club in Rancho Mirage and we will be paying tribute to the classic 1968 cult movie, The Party, with Peter Sellers. For those unfamiliar with the film check out this link on YouTube:

A sumptuous offering of hors d’oeuvres, complimentary bar, DJ and live music from our very own Ms. Longet, complete with Russian dancers and an elephant are just a hint of what is to come. Always the most fun party, this is one not to be missed! Tickets to this and all events are available through the Modernism Week web site.
MODERNISM SHOW BOOTH
This years’ booth will be unveiling a big surprise, so be sure not to miss stopping by. We will be selling memberships, everything from our online store plus a new William Krisel print which he will be personally signing at the booth on Saturday.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Of course, none of these events will be possible without a team of volunteers, so please take a look at the above and let me know in which area you would like to work. Board member Barbara Cain will be coordinating staffing the Modernism Show booth between 2/17 – 2/20, so if you would like to volunteer please contact her directly at: caincos@mindspring.com.
For the iconic tours please feel free to offer your services for more than one house and keep in mind that the Edris & Palevsky houses are open at the same time so you will have to choose which one to work in but will have the opportunity as volunteers to view both houses ahead of the opening times. If you are flexible to work in any area, even better!
WISHING ALL OF YOU THE HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS AND A PROSPEROUS MODERN NEW YEAR!
Nickie McLaughlin, Executive Director
Chris Menrad, President
