As one of the founding board members of Modcom in 1999, Courtney has been actively involved in the modernism movement in the desert from the very beginning with its successful rescue of Albert Frey’s Tramway Gas Station and Firehouse #1 .

He is the owner of Modernway, the mid-century modern furnishings showroom that has become the unofficial hub of the modernism movement in the desert. Together with his wife, Joy, they have restored their home by architect William Cody and are involved with the restoration of many architectural homes throughout the desert community.
